Hi, I’m Edd — a software engineer based in London, a dad of three, and a fairly committed cyclist and tea drinker.

I’ve been writing here, on and off, since 2009. It started as somewhere to park solutions to problems I’d just solved, so future-me could find them again. Over time, though, I noticed other people were hitting the same walls and searching for the same answers — and I found I genuinely loved being able to help. That’s the thought in the back of my mind whenever I publish something now: I hope this helps someone.

These days that’s mostly home automation, Linux, networking, a bit of cloud, and the occasional slice of life.

By day I work as an independent software consultant, through my own company, Edd Grant Designs, helping clients with digital platforms, AI enablement and technical architecture. What I care about most, though, is the outcome — and I’m a firm believer in getting there through simple, iterative design rather than grand, up-front plans.

While you’re here, you might also like my income tools — calculators for UK tax, salary and dividends.

Enjoy the blog? I write it for the love of it — but if it's been useful, or you just fancy saying thanks, you're very welcome to buy me a coffee. It genuinely makes my day, every time.

A handful of lovely readers have already bought me a coffee — thank you, each one's a real treat. ☕
